Storm Prediction Center Issues Severe Weather Outlook for Oklahoma

Overview

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has issued a severe weather outlook for Oklahoma, warning of the potential for tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail. The SPC has placed much of the state in a "moderate risk" category.

Forecasters are monitoring a developing weather system that is expected to move across Oklahoma later today. The system has the potential to produce severe thunderstorms with the primary threats being tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail. The SPC has also issued a "slight risk" for portions of western and southern Oklahoma.

Timing

The severe weather threat is expected to begin this afternoon and continue into the evening hours. The SPC has highlighted a window of 4 PM to 10 PM as the most likely timeframe for severe weather.

Impacts

Tornadoes are the most dangerous threat associated with this weather system. Tornadoes can cause widespread damage to property and infrastructure, and they can also be deadly. Damaging winds and large hail can also cause significant damage to homes, businesses, and vehicles.

Preparedness

Residents in affected areas should be prepared for severe weather. Have a plan in place to seek shelter in the event of a tornado warning. Keep an emergency kit stocked with food, water, and other essential supplies.
