Dave Roberts: Journey from Outfielder to Manager
Early Life and Career
David Ray Roberts, nicknamed Doc, was born on May 31, 1972. He is a Japanese-American former outfielder and current professional baseball manager.
High School and College Baseball
Roberts attended Rancho Buena Vista High School in Vista, California, where he began playing baseball. He later attended UCLA, where he played for the Bruins baseball team for three seasons.
Professional Baseball Career
Roberts was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 1994 but never appeared in a game for them. He made his Major League debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1999, where he played for six seasons. He also played for the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants before retiring in 2008.
Managerial Career
After retiring as a player, Roberts joined the Dodgers' coaching staff as the first base coach in 2015. In 2016, he was promoted to manager, becoming the team's 32nd skipper in franchise history. Under his leadership, the Dodgers have won the National League West Division title five times and reached the World Series twice.
